Crystal Egbo<\/strong> (she\/her) is a first-year MPH student at the UW-Milwaukee Zilber School of Public Health, concentrating in Epidemiology and Maternal and Child Health. Crystal earned her BA in Political Science at UW-Parkside in 2022. After college, Crystal worked with a Milwaukee-based racial justice nonprofit Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT), first as the Northeastern Campus Organizer and then as the Development Coordinator. During her time at LIT, Crystal worked with Black and brown, queer, and underrepresented students at UW-Green Bay, UW-Oshkosh, and UW-Stevens Point, developing their leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement; she was also responsible for identifying and applying for grant opportunities, hosting fundraisers, and expanding the organization’s philanthropic network. Crystal is passionate about grassroots organizing, uplifting youth, and culturally grounded education and public health interventions. In MCH Epidemiology, she is interested in uterine and cervical reproductive cancers, HPV and STI prevention, and sexual health education for women and children. At UWM, Crystal is the Program Assistant for the Maternal and Child Health Catalyst Program, where she serves as the UWM Co-Editor for MCH Leads, an executive board member for the Student Advocates and Alumni for Maternal and Child Health Equity (SAAMCHE) group. When Crystal is not studying or working, you can find her listening to podcasts, playing NYT games, or reading a dystopian novel. Mary Kenny<\/strong> graduated with her MPH University of Minnesota School of Public Health concentrating in Maternal and Child Health<\/a>. Since beginning her master\u2019s program, Mary co-authored the MN Menstrual Products in Schools Toolkit<\/a> and is a fierce advocate for menstrual health education for students. At UMN, Mary worked as the Communications Research Assistant for the Center for Leadership Education in Maternal and Child Public Health <\/a>where she serves as the UMN co-editor for MCH Leads<\/a> and executive board member for the Maternal and Child Health Student Interest Group (MCHSIG)<\/a>. Elizabeth Mekonen<\/strong> is a first year MPH student at University at Albany\u2019s College of Integrated Health Sciences<\/a> concentrating in Social, Behavior and Community Health with a certificate in Maternal and Child Health. Elizabeth received her BA in Health, Behavior and Society from the University of Rochester in 2021. At CIHS, Elizabeth supports the UAlbany Maternal and Child Health Program<\/a> as a Research Project Assistant and co-editor to the MCH Leads Blog. Melissa “Mel” Ray<\/strong> is a second year MPH student at the University at Albany School of Public Health<\/span> <\/a>concentrating in Social, Behavior and Community Health. Mel earned her BS in Public Health and BA in Theatre and Dance at Keene State College<\/span><\/a> in 2022. She then completed a year of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA<\/span> <\/a>at Schenectady Community Ministries<\/span><\/a>. While serving she witnessed firsthand the food insecurity that parents and children face. This experience ignited her interest in maternal and child health, in addition to her other interests in health promotion, food systems, and environmental health. She is excited to be part of the team at the UAlbany Maternal and Child Health Program<\/span><\/a> working to support maternal and child health as a Research Project Assistant and co-editor to the MCH Leads<\/span><\/a> Blog. Estefan\u00eda Henr\u00edquez Luthje<\/strong> graduated in 2024 from the Maternal and Child Health Master of Public Health program at the University of Minnesota (UMN)<\/span><\/a>, with minors in Epidemiology and Global Health. She was also a Fulbright Scholar from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Estefan\u00eda earned her medical degree with Summa Cum Laude <\/em>honors from Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Santo Domingo<\/span><\/a> in 2020 and received a certificate in clinical research at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health<\/span><\/a>. During her time at UMN, Estefan\u00eda was a trainee for the Center for Leadership Education in Maternal and Child Public Health<\/span><\/a>, where she served as the UMN co-editor for MCH Leads<\/span><\/a>, managed communications for the Maternal and Child Health Student Interest Group<\/span><\/a> (MCHSIG), and was a student member of the Center’s advisory board. Estefan\u00eda has extensive training and experience in maternal and child public health nutrition, programs, research, evaluation, and health communications. Maha Mehmood<\/strong> was a co-editor of MCH Leads<\/span><\/a> for the 2022-2024 period. She graduated from the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at the University at Albany in 2024, concentrating in Epidemiology, and also received a Graduate Certificate in Maternal and Child Health<\/span><\/a>. Maha served as the Graduate Assistant for the UAlbany MCH Catalyst Program<\/span><\/a>. She also graduated in Spring 2022 from UAlbany with a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Biology. Her hobbies include research, studying, shopping, and volunteer work. Maha plans to apply to medical school with hopes of specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, specifically focusing on Maternal-Fetal Medicine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Alexis Chavez<\/strong> served as one of the co-editors of the MCH blog for the 2020-2022 period. She graduated in May 2020 from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health with an emphasis on Health Promotion and a minor in Health and Human Values. In May 2022, she graduated with a master\u2019s degree in public health with a focus on maternal and child health at the University of Minnesota. Alyssa Pochkar <\/strong>served as one of the co-editors of the MCH blog for the 2020-2022 period. She graduated in May 2020 from SUNY Albany with a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Human Biology and a minor in Public Health. In 2022, she graduated with an MPH in Epidemiology with certificates in Maternal and Child Health and Global Health Studies. Alyssa\u2019s passion for public health began during her work in Haiti, where she realized the overlapping barriers individuals face while trying to live healthy lives.
